Slip

Julie Lehman

Looking out
And into
The brightest gray
Reflecting questions unasked
Without want of answers,
Only embraces:
Mermaids lost in a labyrinth of sea
A bottle of lullabies found on my shore.

I never want the gray without the bright
Or the bright without the gray
You remind me of Someday
When our words dance on the precipice
Of an erupting horizon
Unable to go home
Swallowed into sea foam.

We can only laugh as they fall
And dance with each other instead.
